HonestWorld1. Who we are
HonestWorld is an independent product transparency app developed by a solo developer in Brisbane, Australia. We are not affiliated with any food company, retailer, cosmetic brand, or manufacturer. We have no corporate sponsors and no advertising partners.
2. What we do not collect
HonestWorld does not collect:
- Your name or any form of personal identifier
- Your email address or phone number
- Account credentials — there are no accounts in HonestWorld
- Payment information — payments are processed entirely by Google Play
- Photos linked to you — label images are sent to our analysis service for processing and are never stored linked to your identity
- Browsing history or data from other apps
- Advertising identifiers
- Precise GPS coordinates
3. What we do process, and why
3.1 Scan history
Saved locally on your device only. It never leaves your device unless you choose to share a result. You can delete it at any time in app settings.
3.2 Product analysis results
When a new product is analysed, the product's name, brand, ingredients and score are saved anonymously in our database so future users get instant results. These records contain no link to your identity, device, or location.
3.3 Approximate location (optional)
If you grant permission, your approximate city or country is used for Discover screen statistics only and is not stored after the app closes. The app works fully without it.
3.4 Barcode data
Barcode numbers are sent to our database to look up products. They are not linked to your identity.
3.5 Supporter recovery codes
If you become a Supporter, a recovery code is stored securely so you can restore access on a new device. It is not linked to your name or email — we never have those.
4. Third-party services
- Supabase — backend database for anonymous product results and recovery codes. GDPR-compliant. No personal data is shared with it.
- Google Gemini (image analysis) — processes product label photos to extract ingredients and claims. Photos are not retained for model training under our usage terms.
- Google Play — handles all purchases. We never see or store your payment details.
- RevenueCat — manages purchase and subscription status. It receives the purchase receipt only, never your name or email.
5. How long we keep data
Scan history stays on your device until you delete it. Anonymous product results are kept indefinitely as part of the shared knowledge base. Supporter recovery codes are kept while your Supporter status is active. You can contact us at any time to request deletion of your recovery code.
6. Your rights
- Delete your local scan history at any time in app settings
- Revoke the location permission at any time in your phone settings
- Request deletion of your recovery code by contacting us
- EU residents have rights under the GDPR, including access, rectification and erasure
- California residents have rights under the CCPA
- Australian users are protected by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles
7. Children
HonestWorld is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, contact us and we will address it.
8. Security
Our database uses encrypted connections and access controls. Because we do not store sensitive personal data, the risk to you is structurally minimal — you cannot leak what was never collected.
9. Website cookies
The honestworld.app website uses one storage mechanism: a theme preference (light or dark) saved in your browser's local storage. It contains no personal information. We use no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies, no social media cookies, and no third-party cookies of any kind. You can clear this preference at any time through your browser settings without affecting your use of the site.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. We will never meaningfully reduce your privacy without clear notice in the app.
